Boot Camp FAQ's
Q. What is it? Boot camps are types of group exercise sessions, with a military twist, run in local parks. They are a fun, sociable way of getting fit or fitter, and get you outside in the fresh air!!
Q. Where is it? In local parks, currently in Wimbledon and New Malden. But we are looking to put on more sessions, so if you have 5 or more people interested (can include family and friends) we can arrange a regular session near you!
Q. Who takes it? A Healthwise Trainer will ensure you exercise safely (in a lit part of the park) and will also look after your bags/coats etc. Some of our trainers have a military background but they are ALL friendly and approachable.
Q. What exercises are involved? No session is exactly the same, but you would generally do a warm-up of some gentle jogging/walking, then some drills and resistance exercises such as squats, lunges, ab crunches, star jumps etc.
Q. I’m overweight and/or unfit: will I still be able to join in? Yes absolutely, you can work to your own ability, you can power walk instead of running, and no-one will make you do anything you don’t want to. Boot camp has the added benefit that if you’re worried about looking sweaty and red, no-one can see what you look like as its dark!! It really doesn’t matter if you’re the slower one of the group, you will quickly improve and everyone is really supportive! Bootcamps are for all abilities, shapes and sizes!
Q. Can I take part if I have an injury or an illness? Yes you may be able to still take part, as you can work out to your own level and do the lower intensity alternatives (e.g. walk instead of run, half-star jumps etc). Healthwise trainers are fully qualified and are used to training all levels of fitness and ability. However, we would advise you to contact either Steve or Debbie in Healthwise to discuss your concerns in confidence.
Q. What are the physical benefits of bootcamps? Full body work-out: you will work your lungs, heart, lower body and upper body…all in 1 hour! Safe and effective work-out delivered by a qualified trainer. Outdoor exercise generally burns more calories as you have to work harder to keep warm. Resistance training and Cardio-vascular exercise combined is effective for weight-loss, weight management and increasing metabolism, toning-up and increasing strength.
Q. I am going to be away for a few of the sessions; do I need to attend every one? No you don’t need to attend every session; you just pay for the sessions you attend
Q. How long do the courses run for? Normally 8 weeks
Q. Can I join a course even if it has already started? Yes you can sign up at any time, you just pay for the sessions you sign-up for
Q. How much does it cost? At the moment normal fee is £5 per session but we have Christmas deals on to help you beat the Credit Crunch and have a healthy lead up to Christmas!
